Poetry Invitation

For this poetry invitation, I chose to focus on observational poetry to show students how the things that we observe in nature can be our muse for writing poetry.  The structure of this mini lesson is as follows:

1. Book Talk for Forest Has a Song by Amy Ludwig Vanderwater.

2. Read aloud First Flight poem by Amy Ludwig Vanderwater.

3. What do YOU notice about the poem First Flight by Amy Ludwig Vanderwater.

4. What I noticed about the poem First Flight by Amy Ludwig Vanderwater.

5. Talk about why poets are like scientists.

6. Watch a short clip about Otters.

7. Watch me write my own observational poem.

8. Now you write your own observational poem.

9. If you're willing, publish your poem to the padlet.
