For the Love of Poetry

Hello! A few weeks ago I began my journey writing poetry. Now, I would like to share a few of my favorite poems with you that I have written, as well as other authors' poems who have been my muse throughout my journey. I have also attached below some amazing resources for both teachers and students who need some writing inspiration. Enjoy!

Tissues

(Inspired by William Carlos Williams)

So much depends

upon

a box of tissues.

Soft and thin layers

used as a safety net,

for runaway tears and stuff up noses.

Such a simple thing that can provide

relief and comfort

at the same time.

A Purple Flower

A flower

with purple pedals

soft as silk

and dark blue lines

that look like veins.

Who's colors shine

bright

on a cold

and cloudy day.

A welcoming

and familiar sight

for all who

pass by.

Buzzing bees

Singing robins

Morning joggers

and wondering dreamers

like me.

As I gaze

upon this purple flower

it gives me

hope

in a time

of uncertainty.

Cuddling close to me

old, orange, and sleepy cat

I call her Pinky.

6:22 pm: The sun is sinking below the Earth.

leaving behind a trail of colors across the sky.

Telling a story about the sun's daily journey.

My "Small Poems" Inspiration

"What's the greatest lesson a woman should learn?

that since day one. she's already had everything

she needs within herself. it's the world that

convinced her she did not.

- rupi kaur

Rosebush

In summer it

Blooms out flat

And sweet as milk;

In winter it

Thin to bitter

Tangle of bones;

And who can say

Which is the

True rosebush?

- Valerie Worth

Love That Dog

(Inspired by Walter Dean Myers)

Love that dog,

like a bird loves to fly

I said I love that dog

Like a bird loves to fly

Love to call him in the morning

love to call him

"Hey there, Sky!"

- Sharon Creech

Pocket

These things

Might go

Into the pocket:

Sea-stones,

A bright

Beetle,

Knitted circles

Of Queen Anne's

Lace;

These things

Come out

Of the pocket:

Sand, splinters,

Scraps

Of paper creased

And a soft

As an old

Face.

- Valerie Worth

The Red Wheelbarrow

so much depends

upon

a red wheel

barrow

glazed with rain

water

beside the white

chickens.

- William Carlos Williams

Moss

Barefoot on this emerald carpet

toe-by-toe I squish across.

I softly sink in velvet green.

Oh how I wish for socks of moss.

- Amy Ludwig Vanderwater

Home

A rotten log is

home to bug

home to beetle

home to slug

home to chipmunk

home to bee

a lively living

hidden home

inside

a fallen tree.
